Practical Pet Birds for the Average Family

An overview of the positive and negative impact a bird can have on the family home rated by species.

Purpose

Many years of my life were spent keeping and raising exotic birds. My fascination of these creatures remains to this day. I have witnessed the time when wild parrots were captured and forced to live in exile from everything they have adapted to for millions of years, forced into a strange fearful walled encloser, apart from their own kind, and expected to become a talking interactive pet in a “home” where all the rules have changed. Now, thankfully, the science of aviculture has given us knowledge allowing the captive propogation of many species of desirable birds. Many species are kept as pets but are able to associate with their own kind and ultimately breed.

This blog deals with many aspects of keeping exotic birds in captivity. It is hoped these pages and website will help in the selection of the right kind of bird that fits your individual wants along with practical considerations.
